Dental implants also known as “screw-in teeth” are used to replace a tooth or teeth once lost or extracted. You could say that, implants are the gold standard when it comes to comparing them with one’s own natural teeth. having said that, they still are far from ideal in a number of aspects and cannot be used in some circumstances. A dental implant is placed into the patient’s own jaw bone under anaesthetic and if successful, it will fuse into the natural bone forming a bond. This process is called osseointegration. Osseointegration takes anything from 2 months to 12 months to happen but most of the time it takes about 3-6 months. Once this has happened, it means the implant is now fully stable and a crown can be attached onto it. A dental implant therefore consists of 2 components: the implant itself which is made out of titanium and the crown part which is the tooth itself. The most common complication with dental implants is called peri implantitis. Over time, the implant will become loose and come out. No one known the exact cause of peri implantitis but inadequate brushing is known to make it worse. At the GDC, we offer fixed cost dental implants unlike other clinics which give you the cost of the implant only but then craftily add on fees such as the cost of the implant abutment and the crown which bumps up the total cost. We see many places which “offer” implants at say “only £900” but this is not the real total cost. In addition, implants do cost to maintain. For example, you will need to keep on seeing an implant dentist every 6 months including having x-rays done and using special scalers to vlean around the implant.
Dental Implants are a good solution if you do not want to wear dentures and you want a teeth to stay in which don’t need to be taken out. Our implants cost only £975 per tooth including the examination fee, x-rays, scans, abutments, screws and the permanent crown. Through our implant manufacturer for an extra £38 per implant, you can get a warranty to cover against any failures including peri implantitis or if the implant gets loose.
